About us

Founded on May 10, 1999, The Leonardo Murialdo Foundation (LMF) is an NGO created by the Josephine Congregation of Saint Leonardo Murialdo; its goal is the formation of children and youth, especially for those coming from poor, challenged backgrounds.
For over 8 years, in Popesti-Leordeni or in Roman, the vision behind all of our activities has been to provide children and youth with moral, spiritual, cultural, professional and material education and support. For many people, the foundation represented a second chance, an environment where they could find attention, patience, competence and respect. In brief, it represents the history of a vocation whose key concept is "to give as a gift".

Although focusing on non-confessional activities, the foundation was named after the Italian founder of the congregation, one of the major saints and pedagogues of the 19th century, Saint Leonardo Murialdo. It may come as a surprise, but all the foundation does is to implement the highly actual projects and vision of Leonardo Murialdo who wanted to be for youth "a friend, a brother, a father".
During recent years, by means of an intense activity conducted mainly in the city of Popesti-Leordeni and Roman, the LMF earned the reputation of a respected organization that is actively involved in the life of the community; the proof are the partnerships with local authorities meant to improve the quality of life in the area and build a better future for the community.

The foundation's headquarters in Popeşti-Leordeni house 4 departments: The Center for Youth, also known as the "Oratory", The Center for Professional Development, The Center for Research and Information or the Library, and the Office for Social Care. Each department is in charge of running specific programs, sharing with the other departments the same vision and resources. We can provide quarters and equipment for the activities of youth, children, and families. Thus, mention could be made of 5 modern sports grounds, a hall for festivities and conferences with modern equipment, a room for playing, rooms for holding classes and activities, a multimedia room, and a library.
Most of the activities, be they cultural or recreational programs, sports, courses, social care services or library services, are run with the help of many partners who share the same vision with regard to involvement in the community and the notion of charity.
